Mexican with Super Loco and Lucha Loco

By Sunday, November 06, 2016 , , , , , , ,

We have all our Mexican cravings satisfied by the Loco Group which is now dishing out our favorite tacos from 3 different lovely locations at Lucha Loco at Duxton, Super Loco Robertson Quay, and now the latest at Super Loco Customs House
Let's start with the original Lucha Loco, the super chill Taqueria and Garden Bar. Have the winning combination of Elotes and Taco Pescado Snapper ($11) here.
Juicy cobs of Mexican street style grilled corn topped with chipotle mayo, spices and cotija cheese are excellent snack bites to be chased after by tequilas and cocktails. And whenever ready, the fish taco will fill up the tummy.
Want to chill by the river, then Super Loco Robertson it is, best accompanied by the Alitas De Pollo ($16). It’s better than those Korean wings, imo. Sweet and spicy sums up the wings, though an oversimplification. There’s chipotle, red chilli, pickles, lime and crema, and the subtler spices of coriander seeds, white and black peppers, paprika and salt in the seasoned flour that is used to coat the wings overnight. These mouth-watering wings are amazing and they fly off the plate. Don’t forget the tipple!
For something more upclass? Head on over to the new Super Loco Customs House. A contemporary Mexican Cocina Y Bar, it has a different menu that showcases a few more premium ingredients. The cherry on the cake? The postcard-perfect view of Marina Bay and the laser light show of Marina Bay Sands jazzing up your evening. Pretty romantic.

Do not ignore the cocktail menu that screams Mexican with its vibrant, bold and zesty flavours. Try the unique Prickly Pear Mezcalita ($18) for the fun fruit of cactus in mezcal based margarita, or Acai Spearmint Mezcalita ($18) if you adore the superfood. There is also Mexpresso Martini ($18) with that special dash of mezcal to perk up the evening.
An absolute stunning appetiser is the Atun Tostadas ($15). The smoky torched fresh sashimi grade tuna and smoked sea salt was an ultimate combination. Served with lime mayo and avocado, this item is light on the stomach and palate. Call it sashimi on tostada if you wish, Atun Tostadas beats sushi hands down.
Ensalada Granos ($8/$15) is THE salad. Light and fluffy quinoa and pearl barley, crunchy broccoli and pomegranate, toasted chia, sunflower seeds and almonds, refreshing pico de gallo and sherry vinaigrette. A pop of freshness, a roll of sweetness, a bite of crunch, a little surprise of mint, shades of nuttiness and spice, every spoon a different experience. I can have this bowl every day.
Fancy a barbecued whole seabass to share with your dining companions? Pescado Asada Con Chili Rojo Y Perejil ($46) is a lovely dish that will satisfy the fussiest fish lover. The seabass is locally sourced and sustainable, and it is so fresh with natural sweetness that you can have it without the red and green salsa. But it’s Mexican cuisine, so bring on the salsa!
A night in Mexican spices before hitting the charcoal oven, Cerdo ($32) is given a brush of cooking juices and dressed with cider vinegar and some vegetables it had been cooked in before serving. You bet this slab of tender agave pork belly is loaded with sexy smokiness and exotic Mexican flavors! (And I guiltily admit that the fats are amazing too!) The ultimate seduction was the black bean hummus that lingered on our tongues and minds.
Chocolate lovers will fall in love with Tostadas Dulce Du Chocolate ($15). A play of textures and levels of cocoa intensity, this insanely swooning dish consists of chocolate tortilla, chocolate avocado butter, Mexican bitter chocolate ice-cream, cocoa nib candy and chunky pecan crema. The unique chocolate avocado butter is made by blending avocado with coconut water, agave, organic cocoa butter and coconut oil—ingredients the proof of a fashionable dessert.

On another note, do you know that the menu features 28 vegetarian menu items and is 90% gluten-free? Hurrah for those with dietary restrictions and friends of theirs!
